The criticism of most rock biopics is they follow the same formula. They鈥檙e all the same movie.

Not so for I鈥檓 Not There, director Todd Haynes overlooked film about the spirit of Bob Dylan, told through storylines 鈥渋nspired by the music and many lives of Dylan.鈥

Reading up on the movie before seeing it is essential.

With a cast which includes four Oscar winners, the six characters are played to perfection by Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Richard Gere, the late Heath Ledger, Ben Whishaw and child actor Marcus Carl Franklin. (Julianne Moore has a small part -- shesa国际传媒 the fourth Oscar winner in the cast.)

Blanchett who plays Dylan at the time when he was booed off stage in the UK for going electric, was robbed of an Academy Award for this film. (She lost to Tilda Swinton.) Blanchett steals the show.

As for the soundtrack, there aren鈥檛 as many Dylan songs as you鈥檇 expect. A pivotal scene uses I鈥檓 Not A Stepping Stone by the Monkees.

Ranked as the best rock biopic of all-time by Rolling Stone and No. 3 by Variety, this experimental film is an absolute must for Dylan fans.

For maximum coolness, Kris Kristofferson is the narrator.
