The West sa国际传媒 Yacht Club, which meets in the old ferry MV Pendozi, bought from the City of sa国际传媒 for $2 in 1965, is among the community groups seeking a total of $213,000 in financial aid from the City of West sa国际传媒.聽

Community groups in West sa国际传媒 are requesting significantly more financial aid than the city has available to hand out.聽

Twenty-five different organizations are asking for just over $213,000 to help them operate this year, councillors were to hear Tuesday. But the city budget for its community grant program is $152,000.聽

鈥淓ach year the municipality receives more grant requests than it can fund. The objective of this policy is to treat all organizations fairly and consistently with the aim to share available resources throughout the community,鈥 a report to council states.聽

鈥淕rants are intended to provide modest levels of support and assistance to community non-profit organizations,鈥 the report says.聽

The largest request was the $41,000 ask from the Westside Celebration Society, which puts on the annual Westside Daze festival. Its total budget for this year is $157,00, so the municipal grant if approved would equal 26 per cent of its operational cost.聽

Other significant requests include $25,000 from Hemisa国际传媒 Holistic Healing Centre Society, a non-profit that helps women recover from addictions and other personal trauma, to help buy furnishing for a new centre; $15,000 requested by operators of the Canadian Red Crosssa国际传媒 equipment loan program in West sa国际传媒; $15,000 from the sa国际传媒 Aquajets Swim Club to help pay for pool rentals; and $11,000 from the West sa国际传媒 Yacht Club to help with general operating expenses.聽
