The NDP has announced its candidates for the two sa国际传媒-area ridings in the upcoming federal election.

Trevor McAleese, an independent video game developer, will represent the party in the riding of sa国际传媒. Harpreet Badohal, an advocate for worker safety, will represent the party in Okanagan Lake West-South sa国际传媒.听

鈥淗arpreet and Trevor are two incredible candidates who understand the struggles that folks in the Okanagan are facing. They are ready to build upon the work done by their NDP colleagues to secure dental, pharmacare, childcare, and so much more,鈥 says Richard Cannings, the NDP MP for the nearby riding of South Okanagan-Kootenay who has decided to retire from politics.听

The NDP face long odds of winning either sa国际传媒 riding. In the 2021 federal election, the NDP candidate in the riding centred around sa国际传媒 came third with 18 per cent of the vote. In the same election, the NDP candidate for the riding that included West sa国际传媒 and Peachland came second with 21.5 per cent of the vote.听

, a polling aggregator, shows the NDP at just eight per cent of the national popular vote. That’s well behind the current levels of support for the Liberals, at 43 per cent, and the Conservatives, at 38 per cent.

If those numbers hold until the April听28 election, and based on the way the parties鈥 support is spread across the country, the Liberals would win a majority government with between 164 and 220 seats, compared to the Conservatives鈥 predicted range of seats between 101 and 150.听

now projects the riding of sa国际传媒 as a ‘toss-up’ between the Liberals, represented by Stephen Fuhr, and incumbent Conservative MP Tracy Gray. The website predicts a ‘likely’ Conservative win in the riding of Okanagan Lake West-South sa国际传媒, currently held by incumbent Tory MP Dan Albas.
