Jagmeet Singh got into a couple of protesters鈥 faces after getting called a corrupted bastard.
The NDP leader was leaving a Terry Fox event in Ottawa when he was getting heckled by at least two men, who seem to have called him a 鈥渃orrupted bastard.鈥
A video captures Singh walking towards the Parliament Hill. Initially he can be seen interacting with a woman, possibly a critic of his, but nothing about that exchange appeared aggressive.
A moment later, a male heckled a question about a non-conference vote. Then Singh was called a 鈥渃orrupted bastard.鈥
That prompted Singh to turn around and approach the hecklers, while security officers were monitoring the situation
鈥淵ou want to say something?鈥 the NDP leader asks.
鈥淲hat?鈥 says one of the hecklers nervously.
鈥淵ou want to say something to me? 鈥淲hy would you say that?鈥 Singh responds aggressively, before turning his gaze to the other heckler.
The other heckler blamed 鈥渟omebody behind鈥 them for saying corrupted bastard, although no other hecklers can be seen on the video.
Singh then gets into the face of the first man, demanding to know if hesa国际传媒 the one who said it.
鈥淚f it was me I鈥檇 admit it,鈥 the heckler says.
Singh inquired further about who said it before calling the man a coward whosa国际传媒 too scared to say it to his face.
While the hecklers seemed frustrated by NDP politics, both were very timid during their confrontation with the party leader.
Online reactions were overwhelmingly in favour of Singh.
鈥淏y now you've probably seen the video,鈥 Singh wrote on X later in the day.
鈥淔or days now, bullies in Ottawa have been spewing hate and harassing Canadians who don't agree with them. An Indigenous woman being called a Nazi. Staff being harassed. Journalists being yelled at. Thatsa国际传媒 the country Pierre Poilievre wants. Me? I believe everyone should feel safe walking our streets. I believe we need to stand up to bullies and shut down hate. Canadians believe in lifting each other up. Not tearing each other down. Stand with us.鈥
