On Monday, April 21, 2025, at 5:52 p.m., Salmon Arm RCMP responded to a tragic hiking incident on Bastion Mountain involving three local teens.
A 17-year-old male, walking ahead of two friends, disappeared near the top of a 200-foot cliff, believed to have slipped and fallen.
One of the friends鈥 fathers located the victim at the base of the cliff, unresponsive.
Search and Rescue members rappelled down to the victim, confirming he was deceased.
鈥淭his is another tragic event that will greatly affect our community,鈥 says Staff Sgt. Simon Scott in a press release. 鈥淲e鈥檙e deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a young life. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends, and all those impacted by this devastating event.鈥
The BC Coroners Service is conducting their own parallel investigation.
The name of the victim will not be released.
