The City of West sa国际传媒sa国际传媒 capital reserve fund could be 鈥渙verwhelmed鈥 by demands for new municipal projects, councillors will be warned Tuesday.聽
A list of projects currently envisioned for 2026 and 2027 would exceed the $1.2 million thatsa国际传媒 expected to be available at the end of 2025, municipal finance officials say.
鈥淲e see the reserve becoming overwhelmed with capital projects in 226 and 2027. These two budget years and the balance of the 10-year plan will require significant review by management to make decisions on what could be delayed, scaled down, or deleted,鈥 city finance manager Warren Everton writes in a report going to council.聽
A key question for councillors next year will be whether 2025 should be 鈥渁 year of capital restraint鈥 to allow reserves to be somewhat replenished, or should the reserves be increased through other sources such as general taxation.聽
The citysa国际传媒 capital fund has taken two big hits in recent years: the $75 million problem-plagued Rose Valley water treatment centre, and the new municipal hall, which has gone over the initial budget estimate of $18 million by at least $4 million.
A new firehall and community centre is currently being built, with that project currently said to be on budget at $14 million.聽
Capital projects proposed by city staff for 2025 have a currently estimated price tag of nearly $6 million, nearly all of which would be drained by the fundsa国际传媒 current balance. Evertonsa国际传媒 report does not provide details on the nature and financial scope of the capital projects planned for 2025, 2026 and 2027.
The information will be presented to council as part of an ongoing 鈥減rimer鈥 on the issues that will need to be addressed as the city begins to prepare its 2025 municipal budget.聽
