The dead-end road between a trailer park and a resort community will see a lot more traffic, including heavy trucks, if itsa国际传媒 connected through to an industrial park in north sa国际传媒.听
Plans are to extend Commonwealth Road from Highway 97 North through to Jim Bailey Road. Currently, Commonwealth Road is flanked by both Holiday Park Resort and Meadowbrook Estates' trailer park and ends at the Okanagan Rail Trail.听
Area residents and other interested members of the community are now able to say what they think of the proposed extension in a consultation process thatsa国际传媒 been launched by the city. A public house will also be held Feb. 6 from 4-7 p.m. at the Lake Country firehall, 11063 Okanagan Centre Rd. East)

Currently, that traffic has to head further north on Highway 97 to Beaver Lake Road in Lake Country, before travelling east and south to reach the industrial park.听
As it begins design work for the extension, the city says consideration is being given to a number of factors.听
While the extension would undoubtedly bring more traffic and noise, the city says area residents would also benefit from improvements such as a separated multi-use path, sidewalks, street trees, street lights, and left turn lanes to access properties. Itsa国际传媒 also possible a bus route could use the extension, the city says.听
Noise mitigation strategies are being considered, the city says. A drawing of the proposed extension shows a large wall running along the south side of Commonwealth Road but not the full length of the north side.听
The city, the town of Lake Country, and the Okanagan Indian Band have signed an agreement to address boundary- and development-related issues in the area where the three jurisdictions come together. The city is planning to transfer some land currently within the municipality to the town of Lake Country to facilitate a new 650-home development; the band would like easier access to municipal water and sewer lines to spur development on the reserve; and Lake Country is eyeing all the tax revenue it will get from the new housing development.听
sa国际传媒sa国际传媒 interests primarily lay in providing easier access to the industrial park, which is why the extension of Commonwealth Road, which is on reserve land, is being sought.听
鈥淭his connection will create a second access for the area and provide an alternative route, helping to reduce congestion on Beaver Lake Road and improve emergency access to the area,鈥 says Chad Williams, a transportation engineer with the city.听
