Madman Across the Water

Madman Across the Water by Elton John

Another glimpse of the madman across the border

Dear Editor:

Thank you Grant Maxwell from Nanaimo for your letter about Sir Elton John changing his lyrics to 鈥淢adman Across the Water鈥 (letters, March 12). I鈥檓 still laughing at how you nailed that tyrant down south. I think Sir Elton is going to be very busy doing some re-writes of his famous song.

Two kitchens are not allowed

Dear Editor:

I am writing to express my absolute outrage over the revelation that single-family homeowners in Peachland are not permitted to have two kitchens in their homes. This is an astonishing overreach of municipal authority鈥攂orderline totalitarianism鈥攁nd an outright attack on personal property rights.

The idea that a government body believes it has the right to dictate how many kitchens a homeowner can have in their privately- owned residence is beyond comprehension. This level of control is not only absurd but deeply concerning.

What possible justification exists for banning a second kitchen? Do they also intend to dictate how many bathrooms a home may have? How many bedrooms? This is not governance鈥攖his is oppression.

Furthermore, the notion that a stove is the defining feature of a separate suite and must be forcibly removed to meet some bureaucratic standard is insulting. People have multiple kitchens for a variety of reasons鈥攔eligious practices, dietary restrictions, extended family arrangements, or even convenience. Banning something as fundamental as a second kitchen is nothing short of authoritarian micromanagement.

Coun. Alena Glasman was absolutely right to call this out for what it is鈥攄ictatorial behaviour. The fact that this discussion even had to take place is alarming, and it raises serious questions about the priorities of this council.

At a time when housing affordability and availability are major crises, Peachland should be encouraging secondary suites, not waging a bureaucratic war on homeowners. Instead of respecting the rights of residents, you are creating an environment where people are forced into unnecessary expenses, legal fights, and frustration鈥攁ll because of an arbitrary, outdated, and nonsensical bylaw.

If council is truly here to represent the people of Peachland, then this overreach must be reversed immediately. The bylaws restricting second kitchens must be repealed, and the unnecessary enforcement of secondary suite regulations must be reconsidered. This is a fundamental issue of property rights, and constituents will not stand for this kind of heavy-handed interference in their lives.

I demand a clear response from this council outlining how they plan to fix this ridiculous overreach and ensure that Peachland residents can live in their homes without unnecessary government interference. This is not just about kitchens鈥攖his is about freedom, property rights, and the kind of governance we will tolerate in our community.

Trump puzzled by stock market

Dear Editor:

President Donald Trumpsa国际传媒 on-and-off tariff threats have raised questions. Is there some logic to his madness? No one knows for sure, except maybe members of Trumpsa国际传媒 inner circle.

Recently, in response to an interviewer asking if the U.S. is heading toward a recession, Trump did not deny the possibility. He added that he doesn鈥檛 pay attention to the stock market.

If that is true, then Trump is unaware of volatility on U.S. and world stock exchanges. I don鈥檛 know much about day trading, but I do know that market volatility provides ideal conditions for day traders to profit.

Armstrong must resign as MLA

Dear Editor:

Tara Armstrong our sa国际传媒- Lake Country - Coldstream is our representative in Victoria and should resign immediately.

Armstrong our BC-MLA refused to debate with other candidates before the sa国际传媒 election and it becomes more obvious why every day. She appears to have disappeared when her constituents want to contact her. Her agenda is not what people believed they were voting for, she voted against standing up for sa国际传媒 against Trump tariffs, and she called out her party for being 鈥渢oo woke.鈥

What she means is that they are too empathetic about the Kamloops Residential School. Considering much of her riding consists of the Okanagan Indian Band this was an insult to many of her constituencies

Then for obvious reasons, she quit the BC Conservatives. The voters in our riding had far more qualified candidates to choose from. Tara Armstrong should resign now. If you live in sa国际传媒-Lake Country-Coldstream riding consider signing the petition demanding she step down.

Trump is bad for your health

Dear Editor:

Having the DTs (delirium tremens) is a term used to describe a condition caused by drinking too much alcohol. The basic symptoms are unstoppable shaking and seeing imaginary things. Thank goodness I don鈥檛 have to cope with that.

However I do suffer from similar excruciating symptoms. I find myself shaking with rage, hopelessly confused, incessantly swearing and helplessly hallucinatory. I must admit some of the hallucinations are down right delightful. Especially the ones when I see myself as one of the lawmen in the movie 鈥淕unfight at the O.K. Corral鈥. During those delusions all the action takes place in the Oval Office.

You see my DTs have been brought on by the insane antics of Donald Trump.

Stop flying the Stars and Stripes

Dear Editor:

The display of an American flag locally in public is more than a little aggravating.

The optics are poor, the temperature of the country is not being read by whomever would display the Stars and Stripes publicly.

I鈥檝e read from the Calgary Herald an article by minister John Pentland, of the Hillhurst United Church, defending a merciful attitude toward the U,S, government.

That Jesus taught 鈥渓ove your neighbour鈥, 鈥渓ove your enemies鈥. I ask, in the face of the extreme danger posed by the leader of the United States, convicted felon, serial sexual offender, now taunting Canadian sovereignty, is it too much of an ask?

Believe it or not, there are American flags displayed in sa国际传媒 churches.

Is it too much to ask of the churches that they respond more sensitively to the overwhelming hurt being felt in our country and instead put the symbol of our antagonists away until more peaceful times return?

Never give in to bully tactics

Dear Editor:

Premier (David) Eby, climate change must continue to be addressed. If we react to the bullies鈥 threats of tariffs by producing more oil and other fossil fuels we are in danger of destroying our oceans. Then our money will be worthless. Your grandchildren will wonder 鈥渨hen did you know?鈥
